nowymodel.org on TVP Poznań

Our stand at arena DESIGN was visited by reporters from "Telescope".

They were particularly interested in the "Hand made" happening and the historic armchair designed by Jan Węcławski.

Here is their report (material from the fair, approx. 18 minutes into the program):

Here are some pictures from our Tuesday activities at arena Design.

Bartek Sowa accompanied us with his camera during the „Hand made” happening performed by Piotr Kamiński, Michał Słomka and Adam Wojda, at the workshop by Michał Kowalski (sorry, but we have no more places available :( ) and in „Praniu designu” – our Special Guest – Marek Cecuła commented on the bold ideas of students who came from all over Poland.

nowymodel.org at arena DESIGN: see it for yourself, i.e. the exhibition "Design from our backyard"/ "Next door design"„

We invite you to the exhibition "Design from our backyard"/"Next door design", where we will present projects and objects by masters of Polish design and their most talented students.

nowymodel.org is a foundation of designers. We work together because we have one common goal: to make Polish design recognizable and valued both nationally and internationally. How can we achieve this? The outstanding projects that originate in the minds of our designers, in their sketchbooks, and on their computer screens must come to life. We believe this is possible, even though it can be truly challenging. We persevere, regardless of the obstacles. We thrive together!

At the exhibition, you'll see furniture and other items that actually exist! Some are prototypes, others have already entered production. Because only in this way can the fruits of creative imagination materialize. Because only in this way can you share your passion with others. Because only in this way can you truly transform the world around us into a more functional and beautiful place.

Some of the designs were created just a few months ago. But there are others that have waited many years, like the adjustable-height shelving unit invented in 1959 by Rajmund Teofil Hałas. It was sitting in a drawer, and we took it out into the light of day. And here it is! It's a delight to the eye. It's becoming an everyday fixture in every apartment—including our own. It's a very contemporary piece of furniture. It has withstood the passage of time, or perhaps it was simply decades ahead of its time. We hope Professor Hałas is happy and cheering us on from a better world.

We believe Jan Węcławski is also keeping his fingers crossed for us. At the exhibition, you'll see his legendary armchair from the Hotel Merkury. We're very grateful to the National Museum in Poznań for loaning it to us. We dream of giving this armchair a second life. After all, what could be more functional and stylish than Polish furniture from the turn of the 1950s and 1960s? See for yourself and see the armchair for yourself.

We feel honored that our exhibition was chosen by one of the most charismatic Polish designers for the premiere of his series of works entitled "Corundum" - Marek Cecuła. These extraordinary objects are made of corundum – a material with special properties. Until now, it had been used in heavy industry, primarily in the military, exploiting its hardness (in this respect, it is second only to diamond!). Meanwhile, Marek Cecuła also recognized its interesting tactile and color qualities. Fascinated by corundum's unique transparency, he designed vessels that evoke esoteric rites and magical rituals. As if he believed that the greatest power resides in the spirit, not in a heavily armed machine. We believe the same.

One thing we're really excited about is Michał Kowalski's Ice Board. His ice board has already been tested on Lake Kierskie. It's incredibly fast! It's also lightweight (you can carry it under your arm!), and Michał strives to keep it as affordable as possible. He loves sports (including extreme sports) and is committed to sharing his passion. Let's keep our fingers crossed for him!

Each piece of furniture we've shown has its own story. We could talk about each for hours. And each piece is meant to be used, first and foremost. So we invite you to the exhibition. There, you'll be able to touch, try, familiarize yourself with, and appreciate them, as well as meet the designers in person.
You will see works by Tomasz Augustyniak, Justyna Bagińska–Stosik, Michał Bartkowiak, Jakub Buszyński, Marek Cecuła, Paweł Grajkowski, Rajmund Teofil Hałas, Michał Kowalski, Katarzyna Laskowska, Ryszard Mańczak, Tomasz Andrzej Rudkiewicz, Karol Starczewski, Anna Trafas–Kowalczyk, Maja Uzarowicz, Jan Węcławski.

During the opening on February 19 at 5 p.m., the Zigzag Paradise band will play live for us: Alex Wirtz – guitar, voice, tabla, duduk, Panos Anasontzis – guitar, percussion, Hubert Kulikowski – guitar, Zbigniew Francuskiik – bass, Marcin Tuliszkiewicz – guitar.
The Szałpiw family brewery, founded by Wojciech and Jan Szała, will serve its flagship beer, a brew that's becoming increasingly popular in Poznań. You can try their "Szczun," seasoned with a subtle hoppy bitterness, and for a sweeter alternative, we suggest the dark "Deszcz w Cisnej" from a friendly brewery in the Bieszczady Mountains.

Most of the events we have prepared will take place at stand number 1 in pavilion five, but we will also meet you at the arena DESIGN Forum.

We invite designers, technologists, students, and anyone simply interested in Polish design who wants to live in a functional, friendly, and beautiful world. See you there!

The exhibition opening is on February 19, 2014, at 5 p.m. The exhibition is open from February 18 to 21, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (on Fridays until 4 p.m.).

nowymodel.org on arena DESIGN do it yourself, i.e. workshops and technological and design consultations

The work of the nowymodel.org foundation is a work in progress. You can join us in this process. We invite you to join us!

Registration for the design workshops is still open Michał Kowalski „"Your new model: design your own bag"” and workshops for technologists entitled „"Taming the Designer, or How a Concept is Created"” led by Paweł Grajkowski and Mikołaj Wojtkowiak. Those interested can apply by writing to eop@nowymodel.org.

Michał has prepared a wide variety of materials to inspire both professional designers and amateur enthusiasts. The only limit to this adventure is your imagination. The machines are ready to bring any idea to life.

Paweł and Mikołaj will try to convince the technologists that the designer isn't so scary. He has all sorts of strange ideas running through his head, sometimes he doesn't understand the obvious and demands the impossible, but if you talk to him honestly and from the heart, truly interesting things can come out of it. The important thing is to find common ground and inspire each other.

Everyone visiting our stand will have the opportunity to talk with designers and technologists on all topics related primarily to the use of various materials. We welcome people with extensive experience, passion, and outstanding specialists in many fields.

Technological and material consultations will be led daily (from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) by, among others: Jakub Buszyński and Paweł Grajkowski (electronics), Marek Cecuła (Modus Design, ceramics), Łukasz Chęciński (Printing Poznań, printing) Piotr Kamiński and Adam Wojda (Laboratory, metal, wood), Maciej Kloc (Forbo Flooring Poland, carpets), Michał Kowalski and Krzysztof Ksit (nowymodel.org, fabric), Marek Nowak and Grzegorz Pawłowski (nowymodel.org, metal), Bogdan Starczewski (electrics, mechanics). A detailed program will be announced every morning.

Design consultations will be led daily (from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) by, among others: Tomasz Augustyniak (nowymodel.org), Jakub Buszyński, Marek Cecuła (Modus Design), Paweł Grajkowski (nowymodel.org), Michał Kowalski (nowymodel.org), Anna Łoskiewicz (Meringue Project), Ryszard Mańczak (nowymodel.org), Karol Starczewski (nowymodel.org), Jan Szuta (patent-related issues), Anna Trafas-Kowalczyk (nowymodel.org and Studio Tkaniny), Zofia Strumiłło (Beza Projekt), Maja Uzarowicz (nowymodel.org). nowymodel.org on arena DESIGN: your idea counts, i.e. "Design Washing"„

Without the need to register, you will be able to take part in the full-day creative workshops "Design Washing" inspired by open-air workshops led by one of our masters - Professor Rajmund Teofil Hałas.

The professor encouraged his students to think creatively in every possible way. One of them was this "washing," or attempting to look at design with a completely new lens: as if it had become heavily soiled by the stains of routine, as if stiffened by dust, as if it had turned gray and faded.

Let's try soaking it in clean water until it almost dissolves. Let's sprinkle in the powder of new ideas, pour in the fragrant liquid of imagination, spin out the mistakes, minor flaws, and imperfections, and... let's hang our new, beautiful, fresh design on a string to dry.
The projects and ideas will be commented on and discussed by: Marek Cecuła, Katarzyna Laskowska, Ryszard Mańczak and Karol Starczewski.

We'll explore the new presence of porcelain (should a cup be placed on the table, or perhaps a table with porcelain legs?), a new form of light (can a window be a lamp? How can you brighten the darkest spot under the sun?), furnishing public spaces (a bench, a trash can, a bus shelter, a city shelf, a hand warmer, signposts... has everything really been done before?), and how to turn Polish design into a Swiss watch (just wind it up? add a solar panel? or maybe just remove the sand from between the gears?).

We'll be discussing the opportunities and obstacles facing Polish designers in a select group during the panel "Where is the Material for Polish Design?" Designers collaborating with nowymodel.org will be participating: Tomasz Augustyniak, Marek Cecuła, Paweł Grajkowski, Ryszard Mańczak, Karol Starczewski, Anna Trafas-Kowalczyk, and Maja Uzarowicz. They'll share their experiences (both good and bad), discuss their ideas, and answer audience questions.

Most of the events we have prepared will take place at stand number 1 in pavilion five, but we will also meet you at the arena DESIGN Forum.
We invite designers, technologists, students, and anyone simply interested in Polish design who wants to live in a functional, friendly, and beautiful world. See you there!

„Design Washing” every day from 10am to 6pm.
Expert commentary on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and on Friday at 2 p.m.

Entry to our stand after purchase arena DESIGN ticket.
