Nowy Model cordially invites you to the Zachęta exhibition "Tango on 16 square meters", where we will present the classic Kowalski Chair, reconstructed and put into production by us.
Tango on 16 Square Meters is an exhibition about a kind of residential gymnastics—a brilliant and well-planned choreography, yet a truly acrobatic feat. It documents the ingenuity required to find architectural solutions in conditions of housing, space, and material shortages.
The design draws inspiration from the living space landscape of the Polish People's Republic, a recurring theme in contemporary development practices. It references Zbigniew Rybczyński's film "Tango," as well as current design standards and the popular "wall unit.".
The exhibition, in addition to the legendary wall unit set designed by Bogusława and Czesław Kowalski during the communist era, will also feature a chair designed by the Poznań-based designers. Originally an integral part of the wall unit, it never went into production. Only thanks to a new model has it been reconstructed and has been available on the market since 2014.
The exhibition concept created by Agnieszka Batkiewicz, Xandrar van Dijk, and Veronika Mayr was developed for the Competition for a presentation in the Polish Pavilion at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale and selected as a reserve project.
