Katarzyna Laskowska and Ryszard Mańczak are currently embarking on a journey "across the pond." They will be exhibiting at the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in New York. As you can see in the attached pictures, they're making the long journey straight from the Warta River. NYC DESIGN is the most important design event in the US. From May 9th to 20th, it will feature prestigious exhibitions, installation shows, vernissages, and debates. It's all about the ICFF. At this fair, from May 17th to 20th, the manufacturer Defra and two designers (Katarzyna Laskowska and Ryszard Mańczak) will present their latest projects under the banner "Polish Design in New York." Visitors to booth no. 976 will be able to view Katarzyna Laskowska's unique BA lamp family and Ryszard Mańczak's TANGO mobile poufs, as well as two innovative bathroom furniture collections: OP-ARTY (designed by Olga Mężyńska and Milena Wójcik) and INTRO (designed by Maria-Magdalena Ciślak and Wioletta Kazukiewicz), student designs from the 13th edition of PE-P, implemented into production by DEFRA. This is an Educational and Design Program led by Professors Katarzyna Laskowska and Marta Szczepańska at the University of Arts in Poznań. The exhibition in New York is held under the patronage of Marek Woźniak, Marshal of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship.

BA Lamp Family, designed by Katarzyna Laskowska. A nylon shell stretched over a rigid underwire ensures even light diffusion, illuminating the interior in multiple directions and softly. The base is made of white laminated plywood. The BA lamp is lightweight, easy to assemble, and packaged in a handy package. The concept of the BA lamp is the result of an exploration of the relationship between soft form and the resulting rigid form. This experiment is part of the history of a similar problem posed by design classics such as Bruno Munari and Spontaneous Forms.

TANGO Poufs, designed by Ryszard Mańczak. Two poufs that can be unfolded and combined offer a surprising number of possible uses, from the simplest seat to a chaise longue and even a double bed. The ingenuity of the design is matched by meticulous attention to detail. The TANGO poufs premiered at Ryszard Mańczak's exhibition "Private Atmosphere" in Milan during Tortona Design Week at the Temporary Museum for New Design in 2012, curated by Giulio Cappellini. They have twice won awards in design competitions in New York. This concept, which evokes nomadism as a contemporary lifestyle, highlights the importance of mobile, multifunctional, and modular designs, allowing for the rapid development of a space in a variety of ways.

We're going to Gliwice for Interior Design Weekend, and we're really looking forward to it. We haven't been there yet :)

We invite you to the next edition of the exhibition "Design from our backyard", presenting the achievements of the nowymodel.org team. You will see the designs of our master, Professor Rajmund Teofil Hałas (an excellent shelf with adjustable heights and three-color chairs from the turn of the 1950s and 1960s), as well as his "children and grandchildren": Tomasz Augustyniak (a witty little table called ZUCH), Michał Kowalski (lamps and containers COSY and TRIO, connected with a zipper), Zofia Żadan (peekaboo! screens that can organize any apartment), and the founder of our foundation, Karol Starczewski (KANWA folding chairs and tables, LOCOSYSTEM platforms, and a ROCKING chair that easily converts into a guest bed). There will also be porcelain designed by Marek Cecuła from Modus Design in Kielce.

We've also prepared a design workshop called "Shedding New Light," designed for all lovers of original forms (both design students and design enthusiasts). We're happy to share information about all our projects, but it's best to sit comfortably in our chairs or rock in an armchair and see for yourself how it works.

They're working on a VARIABLE HEIGHT SHELF, born from the mind of Professor Rajmund Teofil Hałas. His hand has transferred the idea onto paper. Our masters are following this idea to transform the shelf into a true piece of furniture. And it's happening! See for yourself.

When Stenia Hałasowa (Professor Hałas's wife) sat in the armchair designed for the Merkury Hotel by Jan Węcławski during our exhibition at Arena Design, everything became clear. It was immediately apparent that this was a piece of furniture designed for sinking into and relaxing. The most comfortable in the world!

We hope you'll soon be able to experience this for yourself. In the meantime, we're showing you the results of a photoshoot featuring a now-vintage original on loan from the Poznań Museum of Applied Arts.

Can trash be associated with elegance, simplicity, and nobility? Absolutely!

ORGANIC waste sorting containers, designed by the founder of the nowymodel.org foundation Karol Starczewski, were nominated by experts to participate in the competition for the best designed products and services on the Polish market Dobry Wzór 2014.

The competition, which is taking place for the 21st time, is organised by the Institute of Industrial Design.
We sincerely congratulate Karol, keep our fingers crossed for the next stages and wish him the Good Design 2014 certificate.

SMILE benches designed by Karol Starczewski to bring joy have found their home in Pasaż Rondo.

Children see it as a swing, though it doesn't actually rock, while adults see it as a chance to take a break from the hustle and bustle. Join us!

 

Radio Merkury played the opening credits of the Polish Film Chronicle and the legendary hits: "Zawsze maja się Słońca" (Always May the Sun Be) and "Malowany dzbanek" (Painted Jug).

Maciej Kucharski decided to talk to guests of "Przystanek Kultura" about nostalgia for the Polish People's Republic. Julia Starczewska-Zakrzewska and Ewa Obrębowska-Piasecka don't miss the old regime. However, they argue that Polish projects from that era were ahead of their time and still work remarkably well today. Listen!

One more thing was added to our various activities on Tuesday: we opened the Flying Instrument Making Workshop.

Location: Jeżyce Cultural Center at 5/7 Jackowskiego Street.

Cast: a group of brave ten-year-olds ready for creative challenges under the aegis of our three special envoys.

Marta Bogucka spoke to workshop participants about the kalimba, and Cyryl Zakrzewski and Konrad Starczewski made every effort to ensure that the sawing and nailing of the boards and the stringing were carried out efficiently and safely. Hammers, nails, saws, wire, screwdrivers – everything was in motion, and little fingers were safe and sound. The finale was a mini-concert featuring plucks and clangs, using a glass window as a resonator. The children chorused: "It was great, great, great!"„

Further editions of the project are planned (April 29 and May 13, 5-7 p.m.), which accompany an educational campaign related to David Chesky's opera "Of Mice and War, or the Story of Brave Albert and the Yellow Cheese." The Poznań Musical Theatre has added it to its repertoire.
