We invite you to the next edition of the "Interior Festival" exhibition, presenting the achievements of the nowymodel.org team. You will see the designs of our master, Professor Rajmund Teofil Hałas (an excellent shelf with adjustable heights and three-color chairs from the turn of the 1950s and 1960s) and the IMUGO series stools), as well as his "children and grandchildren": Tomasz Augustyniak (the witty little table ZUCH), Michał Kowalski (lamps i containers COSY and TRIO, connected with a zipper), Zofia Żadan (peekaboo! screens that can organize any apartment), and the founder of our foundation, Karol Starczewski (KANWA folding chairs and tables, LOCOSYSTEM platforms, and a ROCKING chair that easily converts into a guest bed). There will also be porcelain designed by Marek Cecuła from Modus Design in Kielce.

We've also prepared a design workshop called "Shedding New Light," designed for all lovers of original forms (design students, children, and design enthusiasts alike). We're happy to share our projects, but it's best to sit comfortably in our chairs or rock in an armchair and see for yourself how it works.

PREMIERE PROJECTS

We've prepared brand new equipment especially for the fair. Three of them will be on display for the first time:

POLISH SHELF BY PAWEŁ GRAJKOWSKI

With this shelf, you can dance many variations in different rhythms. You can use it in pairs, or even in fours. It can even be folded into a complete suite. Its simple plywood form invites you to play with arranging the space and give your interior a unique character. We invite you to dance.

CYRIL ZAKRZEWSKI'S MODUS TERRA

Natural materials, natural forms, natural beauty. The designer values nature's inspiration above all else. Naturally, he also invites you to explore your own interpretations of this original form and find a natural setting for it. Moduss Terra will certainly add warmth to it.

IRBIS SURF & KITE – MKO-0411-0004 BY MICHAŁ KOWALSKI

Born from a passion for sports and the designer's talent for design, he practically created it for himself. This board is suitable for windsurfing and ice kitesurfing. Light and compact, it easily fits in a car. It is equipped with a longboard steering system, four high-quality stainless steel runners, and low-temperature-resistant plastic slide bearings. The body is made of plywood. A stiffening system is located underneath. The board features printed graphics and anti-slip properties. It has been tested at speeds of up to 50 km/h on both hard and soft ice.

MASTER PROJECTS

Our collection of Polish Design Icons is growing. Following the success of Teofila Hałas's Rajmudna Height-Adjustable Shelf (a must-have at the Łódź fair), now available in three versions (natural, white oiled, and distressed), we're introducing a new piece of furniture: the Coffee and Cigarettes table. Our Master continues to surprise us. The table's prototype served Mrs. Stenia Hałas for many years, and later her grandson, Franek. It captivated us at first sight. When we learned that the Professor used to call it, somewhat ironically, "just coffee and cigarettes," we immediately decided that was the perfect name for it: it unites both Jim Jarmusch fans and sophisticated connoisseurs of retro furniture. Its sweet secret is its threaded wooden legs. Each one is exquisite. Since its June premiere, the KOWALSKI CHAIR has triumphantly toured Poland. After years, it's finally making a comeback. Do you remember the legendary Kowalski wall unit? You certainly do. It was used to furnish most communist-era homes in the 1960s and 1970s. Designed by Bogusława and Czesław Kowalscy, they won a national furniture competition. The set also included a chair, though it never went into mass production. Perhaps it was too sophisticated for the harsh times? Perhaps too difficult to make in a socialist factory? We'll never know. But we do have a chair! A real one. Comfortable. Elegant. Equal parts retro and modern. Please take a seat! During the Arena Design trade fair, we'll be hosting Jacek Kowalski at our booth – the designers' son and author of the excellent book "Kowalski Furniture. People and Things." The book is available for purchase with a signature, of course! We've finally seen the launch of a piece of furniture we've been asking about for a long time. It's perfect for any child's room and can "grow" with your child. This is Wojciech Hora's STUDENT WORK SPACE. His graduation project, published in 1987, was presented a year later at an exhibition at the Zachęta Gallery, where it earned the designer an award for the best graduation project in furniture design and a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Art. The furniture is made of varnished or oiled beech slats. The tabletop is made of lightweight, layered board, varnished (with chalkboard paint). The tabletop edges are made of beechwood. The clamps are made of stainless steel.

KAROL STARCZEWSKI COLLECTION

The founder of our foundation continues to pursue his own design work. His furniture has traveled with us across Poland, gaining increasing recognition. We will be showcasing five of them at Arena Design.

ROCKING CHAIR

You can rock on it, you can sway, you can also unfold the armchair and sleep on the mattress, and store bedding in the backrest. We don't rock!

GOATS 1/2x

They were born out of necessity as workbenches for workshop use. They proved so useful and popular that we decided to include them in our collection. They've traveled halfway across Poland with us, making them perfect for travel: they're handy and easy to assemble. They've gracefully furnished boutique and studio interiors, allowing for any styling. They're also at home in the kitchen. They owe their name to the X hangers, with which they were paired at the Szczecin trade fair. Half the size, they've become our favorite, elegant fraction.

CANVAS

This armchair is our most tried-and-true piece of furniture. Its history has evolved. Initially, it was primarily multifunctional, so it was beloved by perpetual travelers. Now, it's increasingly comfortable and is also winning the hearts of those who settle in for longer periods. It has appealed to both directors, who associate it with the set of a Hollywood movie, and sailors, who pack it under the deck of their boats. It travels with us everywhere, and even during the busiest trade fair days, it allows you to feel, at least for a moment, like you're at a Roman feast and simply relax.

POSITIVO

A table without edges – it seats ten people without anyone sitting on the corner. Simple, light, and easy to handle. It features an original ornament that showcases the structure of the plywood from which it is made. The set also includes benches.

 

LOCOSYSTEM: SHELVES AND PLATFORMS

This set is a hit: it works well in apartments, shops, and offices. The functional connection system makes assembly easy for even a layman. LOCOSYSTEM offers shelving units with a simple, sinuous design, as well as platforms that function perfectly as storage compartments.

DESSERT FOR CONNOISSEUR

We're thrilled to be showcasing Marek Cecuła's designs, created at Modus Design for Ćmielów Design Studio, at the fair. These include our favorite RANDOM mugs, the curved series mugs, and the ZZ pepper and salt shakers. This will be a complete porcelain table set by the Master. Ryszard Mańczek's masterful touch is also evident in the PARABOLICA lamp, which can find the perfect form for any material. Its soft edges, sleek silhouette, and milky light make this lamp both soothing and pleasing to the eye.

LECTURE BY FILIP SPEKA

We also invite you to Filip Spek's lecture, "Where Did So Much Furniture Come From? On the History of Poznań's Design Center," on February 18, 3:30-4:30 PM, on the Forum Stage. Filip Spek is a passionate and passionate design enthusiast. He is also a diligent seeker, researcher, and interpreter. His lectures are like journeys into a retro world that hasn't faded away: it persists in colorful narratives, rich iconography, and the belief that beauty has its time, but also exists beyond time. nowymodel.org is pleased to invite you to journey in his distinguished company. Filip Wiktor Spek (born 1992 in Piła), a student at the Institute of Art History at the University of Warsaw. He participated in the conference "Hybrids, Chimeras, and Monsters in World Cultures"; he is the author of two essays that received distinctions in competitions organized by the State Higher Vocational School and the Municipal Office in Piła, published in the volumes "Presence and Trace – A Story About Piła Worth Meeting" and "In Search of the City's Cultural Identity." He is interested in 19th-century painting, museum studies, Polish industrial design, German architecture from the interwar period, and Polish postwar architecture. As a hobby, he is developing his own collection of Polish design from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s (ceramics, furniture, glass). Admission to the lecture is included in the ticket price at Arena Design on February 18, 3:30-4:30 PM, Forum Stage.

The exhibition presents designs and objects by masters of Polish design and their most talented students.

nowymodel.org is a foundation of designers. We work together because we have one common goal: to make Polish design recognizable and valued both nationally and internationally. How can we achieve this? The outstanding projects that originate in the minds of our designers, in their sketchbooks, and on their computer screens must come to life. We believe this is possible, even though it can be difficult. We persevere, regardless of the obstacles. We're stronger together!

At the exhibition, you'll see furniture and other items that actually exist. Some are prototypes, others have already entered production. Because only in this way can the fruits of creative imagination materialize. Because only in this way can you share your passion with others. Because only in this way can you truly transform the world around us into a more functional and beautiful place.

Professor Hałas's masterful idea

Some of the designs were created just a few months ago. But there are others that have waited years for their time, like the adjustable-height shelving unit, conceived in 1959 by Rajmund Teofil Hałas. The drawing was lying in a drawer, and we pulled it out into the open. And here it is! It's a delight to the eye. It's becoming an everyday fixture in subsequent apartments – including our own. It's a very contemporary piece of furniture. It has withstood the passage of time, or perhaps it was simply decades ahead of its time. Just like the TRIO chairs, a highly functional variation on the theme of three colors and three shapes. Perfect for three individualists living under one roof. We hope Professor Hałas is happy and cheering us on from a better world.

Like Kowalski with Kowalski

Our special offer for Szczecin is the premiere trade fair presentation of the Kowalski Chair. Do you remember the legendary Kowalski wall unit? It's a piece of furniture that has successfully functioned in many homes from the 1960s to the present day. The chair in question was designed as part of a set that won an award in a national competition and became so popular that it furnished almost all Polish homes. However, the chair itself never went into production. Finally, it, too, has met its due date. We were truly thrilled to produce it and enjoy sitting in it immensely. I can feel the hand of a master in this design!

Our special guest at the exhibition will be Jacek Kowalski, son of the most famous and popular Polish designers, Bogusława and Czesław Kowalski. An art historian and bard, he will not only talk about his parents' furniture but also… sing about it.

Cecuła brand porcelain without borders

We are honored that one of Poland's most charismatic designers, Marek Cecuła, has chosen our foundation to promote his Modus Design Studio. These are extraordinary objects. It's difficult to discern the boundaries between craftsmanship, design, and sculpture. Each one serves its purpose admirably, but it also inspires reflection on the world. Kubas RANDOM, with its large, bold numbers, may seem intimidating at first glance due to its seriality, but it will soon surprise you with the fact that it's not a series, but a single piece reserved exclusively for you. In a world of ubiquitous codes and logins, this is absolutely appropriate!

Most Modus Design projects invite interaction and playfulness when arranging the table. The CURVED SERIES also inspires experimentation with tablecloths (do we really want fabric on the table?). ZZ salt and pepper shakers help expand our knowledge of spices. A series of geometric coffee sets will help transform our coffee table into an abstract painting, or rather, multiple paintings, because everyone can "paint with porcelain" differently. What do you think of the RASTER tray? Isn't it pure conceptual art? And a great excuse for artistic play during meals. Enjoy... watching!

We fly and shine!

One object that brings us great joy is Michał Kowalski's Ice Board. His ice board has already been tested on Lake Kierskie. It's incredibly fast! It's also lightweight (you can carry it under your arm!), and Michał strives to keep it as affordable as possible. He loves sports (including extreme sports) and is committed to sharing his passion. Let's keep our fingers crossed for him. And while we're at it, we're also shedding new light on Michał's lamps, which "zip" like a zipper, and folding them is great hands-on fun.

Lamps are also the specialty of Tomasz Andrzej Rudkiewicz – an internationally acclaimed designer for whom design wasn't born the day before yesterday, having been involved in it for years. Did you know that his lamps starred in Kieślowski's "A Short Film About Love" alongside Grażyna Szapołowska?

The second generation of champions

Our team also includes renowned designers of the younger generation.

This is Ryszard Mańczak (winner of many awards), the creator of the wittily sophisticated GRAZIA sofa in the shape of lips, simply made for kissing, as well as the functional TANGO pouffes, which can be turned into a bed for two in an instant, and the elegant PARABOLICA lamp.

This is Tomasz Augustyniak – a hard-working designer with an impressive portfolio of projects for renowned companies, a multi-award-winning designer, and yet incredibly humble. He will be represented at our exhibition by the ZUCH table, which will bravely stand guard next to every armchair, sofa, or couch.

It is also Katarzyna Laskowska associated with the University of Arts in Poznań – our driving force and a very effective initiator of many activities aimed at integrating designers and technologists, as well as the author of the original, very interesting in its form BA lamp.

The founder's passion and profession

The brains behind our venture is Karol Starczewski – the founder of the foundation, who decided to combine his passion with his profession. nowymodel.org was born out of… frustration with the difficulty of producing furniture in short runs in Poland. Karol is not one to give up. He decided to take on not only the design but also the production himself. A full-fledged prototyping workshop has been established (and is still growing) at his company's headquarters. His network of collaborators, specializing in various crafts and technologies (including cutting-edge ones), is also growing.

When does he find time for his own projects? We sometimes joke that he does it in his sleep. Everyone would love to sleep so creatively! KANWA chairs and tables, the SMILE bench, the ROCKING chair, LOCOSYSTEM shelves and podiums, the MOON table… the list goes on. And he sketches in every free moment.

A ku ku!

Young designers continue to join this distinguished group. They bring their energy and imagination, and are given the opportunity to work with professionals and realize their projects. We hope that this "stable" will soon be recognized not only in Poland.

Our latest darling is Zosia Żadan's PEEKABOO! screens. This young graduate of the Poznań University of Arts approached her graduation project with great care (and humor). Her screens cleverly conceal all the things that usually get tangled and swarmed in our homes. They tidy up very discreetly, and they're also a delight to the eye. Congratulations, and we look forward to working with this very talented young lady!

We shed new light on the lamp

Anyone can participate. There will be room for design enthusiasts to assemble a cardboard lampshade from pre-made elements designed by Zofia Żadan. They can follow the instructions, but if they want to use their imagination, they can create variations on this project. We encourage you to get creative!

We invite professionals to model. We provide the materials and technology – you provide your idea for a new lamp model. The most interesting proposals will have a chance to be implemented in the nowymodel.org prototyping studio.

nowymodel.org hand in hand with TUTU

nowymodel.org specializes in furniture, while Agata Królikowska from TUTU specializes in fashion. These two distinct passions have led to joint projects. Our ongoing collaboration allows us to expand our pool of ideas and refine them.

We invite you to the COMMERCIAL ZONE, where we will present the interior of the store furnished with furniture from the nowymodel.org foundation and filled with creations designed by young Polish designers associated with TUTU.

A counter, hangers, a fitting room, and a place where you can chat with customers and offer them coffee – all of these are essential in any elegant shop. But how can you design an interior that's original, yet functional and welcoming? We spent several nights chatting, and a concept created specifically for the TUTU boutique emerged – we encourage you to visit it during the Szczecin trade fair.

Check it out! KANWA is catching wind in her sails. She's perfect for setting sail. Already in Kiekrz, we feel like we're on the high seas :). And we wish you a foot of water under your keel!
